Survey Technician

Position Summary

Responsibilities include working under close supervision of surveyors, mid to senior level engineers, and will be responsible for providing support related to planning and site development projects including investigations, assessments, engineering studies, designs, and construction-phase services performed in accordance with state and federal regulations. Functions may also require supporting other office activities related to the same as well as assist with field related tasks.

Job Functions

  • Support Survey operations as a Survey/CAD Technician.
  • Perform survey computations, plot deeds from legal description.
  • Develop and plot maps showing topographical contours, elevations, profiles and cross-sections.
  • Manage survey data including routing, stakeout and as-built.
  • Draft plat and assist in preparing documents for submittal to Planning Departments and/or Zoning Commissions.
  • Research maps, site and building plans, and ordinances.
  • Prepare routine correspondence (letters, memos, meeting notes, and proposals) and review outgoing materials for conformance with the Company’s standard operating procedures, practices, and formats.
  • Diligently monitor and report project progress to managers and clients.
  • Manage clients’ expectations and requests.

Physical/Visual Activities or Demands:

  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Extensive viewing of computer screen.
  • Agility of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components.
  • Assisting field investigation and construction oversight activities could potentially require the following: Performing strenuous fieldwork under a variety of site and weather conditions; operation of equipment and collecting samples; moving earth via shovels or hand augers; lifting of pumps, other remediation equipment, cases containing equipment, sample coolers and other items.

Position Qualification Requirements

Education:

  • Advanced certificate from a college or technical school indicating CADD proficiency or an Associate degree in Drafting/CADD is preferred but not required.

Experience:

  • 2+ years experience or the ability to demonstrate advanced CADD methods is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power Point, Access,
  • Good knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D,
  • Good working knowledge of GIS (ESRI) and 3D design knowledge a plus,
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, demanding and ever changing team environment,
  • Ability to interact effectively with others at all levels within and outside the company,
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks within given time constraints,
  • Self-starter with ability to proactively identify and perform problem resolutions,
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills,
  • Strong organizational skills in planning and implementation,
  • Professionalism and customer service skills,
  • Highly self-motivated and directed,
  • Any field surveying experience will weigh heavily for consideration.
